View its indoor, three-pool aquatic center being built
An aquatic center with three pools. A full-size basketball court with an overhead running track. A fitness center with modern exercise machines. Dance and art studios, a youth activity room and a community room. Men’s, women’s and family locker rooms. A café and a large space for group meetings. Our Piscataway Community Center.
Also being built now as part of the Community Center complex is its Phase II: the Piscataway Spray Park. The large, pirate-themed spray park will have two open flume water slides, two spray cannons, a deck geyser and a large supersplash bucket connected to a ship’s bow surrounded by hose sprayers and arches. Adjacent to the splashpad of the park will be covered table seating for families to enjoy the outdoors. The spray park will be in the northwest corner of the Community Center lot and will nicely complement its indoor, three-pool aquatic center.
Mayor Brian C. Wahler and the Township Council are thrilled to move forward now with significant steps on this exciting project. The preconstruction phase was completed, the building plans are before us and key professionals are in place.
The construction management Cumming Corporation was brought aboard moved this priority project through what is known as the bid phase. Netta Architects was hired in March 2018 and Cumming has been coordinating with it and the site engineer to develop the construction schedule and make sure the building plans are in order. The project was bid for construction work in September 2018, the Township reviewed all bidders, and in December 2018 the Terminal Construction Corporation was hired as our general contractor. Moving ahead with construction in 2019, the Community Center with its Spray Park is expected to be fully built and open to the public by Summer 2020.
The Piscataway Community Center will be located on Hoes Lane just south of the Kennedy Library branch.
The YMCA of Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge & South Amboy has been selected to manage the Community Center so YMCA officials will be in charge of its daily operations.
Below are the plans for the first floor, elevated running track and donor wall which will recognize those whom have contributed a total of more than $167,000 for the $32 million project. These funds have been held over these past several years in a dedicated account and the Township has kept records of the various donations.
