  • Assistant Teacher
    POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Teacher will work with a small group of children under the coaching and supervision of a professional staff to ensure the care, safety and well being of the children assigned to her/his group. S/he will use the philosophy of the YMCA mission and the four core values (caring, honesty, respect and responsibility) to deliver and implement a program of the highest quality where every child has the opportunity to reach their fullest potential.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    1. Assist in supervising the group of children to which she/he is assigned (during classroom experience, during outdoor playground activities and while off the Center grounds).
    2. Become involved with the children in group play and outside activities.
    3. Assist with the nap period duties including, but not limited to; setting out and replacing cots/mats/cribs; settling the children, i.e., rubbing backs, reading stories.
    4. Understand & assist the teacher in implementing the curriculum and it’s assessment system.
    5. Have an ability to identify child abuse and have a clear understanding of reporting requirements and responsibilities.
    6. Be responsible for going into the pool to assist swim instructors and maintain staff:child ratio during swim lessons/activities.
    7. Utilize any specific abilities or talents that can enrich the children’s day care experience.
    8. Assist with food service (snack, lunch, special treats) and clean up the eating area.
    9. Support the Y’s HEPA standards by role modeling through participation in activities, snacks, & meals as well as avoiding consumption of foods & beverages during program hours that are inconsistent with HEPA standards.
    10.Be responsible for keeping equipment and materials clean, accessible and in good condition.
    11.Assist the teacher in keeping the classroom organized and neat.
    12.Administer first aid and supervise children’s personal hygiene.
    13.Assist in administration of medication under the direction of the classroom teacher. 14.Assume the responsibilities of the classroom teacher during her absence, with the direction and support of the director.2
    15.Assist in the preparation of materials for daily activities.
    16.Be responsible for daily paperwork (i.e. accident reports, unusual incident reports) needed to maintain state code.
    17.Assist in all bathroom procedures, diapering, potty training, hand washing, etc. 18.Attend all staff meetings when necessary and contribute to the meetings.
    19.Support the center/association by participating in community events as requested by the Supervisor.
    20.Be required to maintain a current CPR & First Aid Certification as well as attend workshops presented during “Center Shut Down”.
    21. Encouraged to attend other forms of professional training during the year.
    22.Be responsible for understanding and emulating the four core values.
    23.Be responsible for accurately recording time worked using the time management system provided on a daily basis

     High school diploma or its equivalent.
     Previous child care experience or related experience.
     Some credits or classes in education or early childhood education a plus.
     Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Beforecare and Aftercare Counselor
     

    Must be available to work weekdays:  6:45am-8:30am 

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Under the leadership and supervision of the School Age Child Care Director, Child Care Director or Site Director, the School Age Child Care Counselor will provide guidance and secure safety for all of the children in the After School Program.  The School Age Child Care Counselor will implement programs designed and monitored by the  Director that ensure every child has the ability to reach their fullest potential and incorporate the four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

     

    1. Ensure all health and safety guidelines are strictly adhered to.
    2. Be a role model for children in program, ensuring they have the ability to thrive and grow.
    3. Assist with daily arrivals and dismissals ensuring all attendance records are accurate and notifying the School Age Child Care Director of any discrepancies.
    4. Responsible for equipment and supplies of the program.
    5. On assigned late-nights responsibilities include straightening up the room, locking all cabinets, removing lost & found items, directing parents (when needed) on how to make payment of late fees and returning sign-out sheets and necessary information to office.
    6. Awareness of emergency procedures and be able to implement quickly and safely as necessary.
    7. Report all accidents/incidents to supervisor ASAP and prepare accident form accurately and completely and submit to supervisor.
    8. Supervise and interact with children during activities both indoors and outside, while on trips, during walks, playing on playground, lunch time, in pool area, etc., having complete knowledge of where children are at all times.
    9. Implement activities for group including setting up of activities and materials necessary for program implementation.
    10. Participate with enthusiasm and motivate all children in group while embracing the four core values.
    11. Discipline children in an appropriate manner when necessary using the positive discipline guidelines.
    12. Meet, greet, discuss and promote program content and children with parents in a manner which reflects“Family Friendly” YMCA.
    13. Adhere to YMCA “House Rules”.
    14. Attend all mandatory department and/or YMCA trainings and meetings.
    15. Utilize the time and attendance system assigned to ensure time worked each day is recorded accurately.
    16. Some flexibility to have change of hours to reflect ½ day closings, holidays and morning care if needed.
    17. Must be on time for hours scheduled or find replacement for hours not able to work.During emergency closings staff are responsible to call the YMCA as soon as possible to be certain of what the program hours will be for that day and what coverage arrangements are being made.

     

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Prefer 18+ years of age with experience working with children in a childcare or related setting.
    • Ability to demonstrate skills in games, athletics, crafts, storytelling, songs, and be able to lend guidance and motivate children in their care.
    • Ability to work as part of a team with a common goal of every afterschool care participant reaching their fullest potential.
    • CPR and Standard First Aid preferred – will train.

  • Birthday Party Staff

    POSITION SUMMARY:     

    Under the leadership and guidance of the Program Director or Coordinator the Birthday Party Staff will work closely with the Birthday Party Specialist, taking direction from the Birthday Party Specialist to ensure Birthday Party events are special and enjoyable by all that attend.

     

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Must arrive prior to the party start time and punch in according to YMCA policy.
    • Under the guidance of the Birthday Party Specialist or Coordinator, Birthday Party Staff member will attend to details of the party, including but not limited to: setting up crafts, setting up party area, engaging children/party participants in activities and other duties as needed.
    • Will monitor event for safety.
    • Under the guidance of the Birthday Party Specialist the Birthday Party Staff member will assist in setting up for party events.
    • During the event will ensure that all party attendees are enjoying themselves.
    • Will assist Birthday Party Specialist or Coordinator in cleaning up event area and returning area to operational standards.
    • Will display and pleasant, engaging, outgoing manner.
    • Will direct concerns or questions to Birthday Party Specialist or Coordinator in a positive proactive fashion.
    • Accurately clock in and out of timekeeping system.
    • Attend staff meeting, department meetings and training events per supervisor’s request and association policy.

  • Bus Driver

    POSITION SUMMARY:     

     

    Under the supervision and guidance of the Program Director, Camp Director and/or Branch Director of Operations the driver is responsible for the safety of all passengers and the vehicle at all times.  The School Bus Driver must display personal characteristics that exemplify the four core values of the YMCA; caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

     

    1. Ensure the safety of all passengers in bus.
    2. Arrive on time (approximately 5 minutes prior to pick-up) at scheduled centers.
    3. Confirm delayed openings and school closings with YMCA personnel (or as indicated on local radio station).
    4. Bus is to be used only for transportation of YMCA participants unless authorized by supervisor.
    5. Any ticket, moving violation, or incident(s) that affects your driving status, must be reported to the Human Resource Director and Executive Director immediately.
    6. Be a positive, desirable role model for children and parents.
    7. Knowledge of emergency procedures and the ability to implement them if need be.
    8. Must report all accidents/incidents to immediate supervisor as soon as possible, as well as complete the accident/incident report and submit it.
    9. Ensure that all passengers and driver are wearing seatbelts at all times.
    10. Maintain and submit Vehicle Destination Logs, Gas Logs, and Mileage Logs according to YMCA procedures.
    11. Perform a pre-trip inspection checking bus for safety hazards, etc,. before using a bus.
    12. Ensure your bus has gas and the inside is kept orderly (return all lost and found to appropriate department at end of run).
    13. Smoking, eating, and drinking while driving the bus is prohibited.
    14. Drive with extreme courtesy.The bus represents the Metuchen-Edison YMCA
    15. Prepare and submit Vehicle Maintenance Request forms immediately upon detection of bus defect or possible defect, address any major cleaning issues.
    16. Assist children getting on and off bus.
    17. Drivers must walk to the back of the bus and back to the front at the end of the bus run to ensure all children have safely gotten off of the bus.
    18. Driver must have in their possession operational cell phone (provided by YMCA) and have it turned on. Always pull off the road to operate phone.
    19. Attend mandatory staff meetings and YMCA training sessions.
    20. Adhere to “House Rules” and exemplify the four core character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
    21. Accurately complete time sheets on a daily basis, signing at the end of the week..
    22. Communicate with supervisor any issues, concerns surrounding the transportation of passengers and or the bus.

    Able to meet the Redwoods Vehicle Driver Requirements

    Able to communicate effectively

    Must be a minimum of age 21

  • Group Exercise Instructors


    Help inspire, motivate and strengthen your community! We are looking for an experienced Yoga instructor to join our Wellness Staff, who are dedicated to building our community by improving the nation's health and well-being. Experience with older adults and those with health and mobility restrictions a plus.

    Qualifications:

    • Must be 18 years or older
    • Certifications for the relevant disciplines strongly preferred-Barre , Boxing , Pilates , Kickboxing and Tai Chi
    • 1 year Group Fitness experience

    • Monitor member's progress and adjust programs as needed

  • Lead Teacher-Pre-K

    Job Description   

    The Lead Teacher, under the direction and coaching of the Center Director will be responsible for the class of children to which s/he has been assigned. S/he will be responsible for the planning and implementation of the curriculum, the health and safety of the children, communication with the parents and supervision of support staff.     Qualifications: 

    ·         Monday-Friday

    ·         7:30am-3:00pm

    ·         CDA or AA Degree

    ·         CPR/First Aid Certified

    ·         Early Childhood Education degree a plus

    ·         Familiarity with Creative Curriculum preferred.

    ·         Carry out curriculum plans and daily activities for children

  • Lifeguard

    Flexible Hours: Monday-Friday between 5:30am-3:00pm

    POSITION SUMMARY:     

    Under the supervision of the Aquatic Director/Assistant Aquatic Director or Pool Manager, the lifeguards will be responsible for the safety of all members during the hours of pool operation by being on deck, actively patrolling the pool area, constantly remaining alert and scanning, enforcing all pool rules, and other duties as assigned by the Director, Assistant Director or Pool Manager.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Ensure safety of members and patrons and prevent injuries by actively guarding and supervising of pools by active scanning and patrolling.
    • Each YMCA staff member is required to participate in an enhanced cleaning program which supervisors will articulate the exact process as well as product used to clean and what PPE will be required to be worn.
    • Ensure the pool is safe and staffing is within YMCA standards when taking responsibility for the pool and when exiting off of duty.
    • Ensure your personal protective (rescue breather, gloves, fanny pack) is all in good working order and accessible per safety standards.
    • Have a complete understanding of, and be familiar with all emergency procedures, buzzers, buttons and YMCA standards, operations and protocols.
    • Ensure security of pool when leaving the pool area – no pool is ever left unguarded for any reason, at any time.Pool and pool deck must be vacated by all when guard must leave pool area.
    • React immediately to signs of individuals in distress.
    • Administer first aid to victims using OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Universal PrecautionsProvide immediate care to sustain life until EMS arrives.
    • Complete all incident and save reports at time of incident, including all pertinent information.Reports must be legible and state the facts as witnessed by the guard.
    • Maintain all aquatic standards and rules.Ensure no distractions or interference with the ability to hear or see signs of distress.
    • Adherence to all bathing code regulations, standards and safety measures.
    • Must keep all certifications current and have the ability to provide documentation of certifications at all times when requested.
    • Wear proper YMCA professional appearance policy attire as well as have all proper safety equipment (whistle, tube, fanny pack, etc) on persons at all time.
    • Participate as part of the Aquatic Team in providing a safe and enjoyable, member friendly environment.
    • Have the ability to perform a pool reading and if assigned to take a reading, ensure all readings are documented and clearly entered into the pool reading log.Any readings outside of the normal range must be reported to the Aquatic Director or designed Certified Pool Operator.
    • Respect coworkers by arriving on time and in accordance with scheduled hours.
    • Communicate all pool rules and policies in a friendly but firm manner.Ultimately the pool is the lifeguard’s responsibility.

     

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • A minimum of 16 years of age.
    • Current lifesavings, First-Aid, CRP/AED and Oxygen certification.
    • Mature and responsible who can react without hesitation in a professional manner.
    • Ability to enforce all pool rules fairly, effectively in a positive manner.
    • Ability to use water testing kit and be part of the team accurately reflecting results.
    • Ability to see and hear individuals and alarms in pool/pool area
    • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

       

    • PHYSICAL REQURIEMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

       

    • Sufficient strength and skill technique to control and rescue struggling adult swimmers, lifting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, concentration, attention and focus to one area for extended periods of time, warm weather outdoor work, average to warm in-door and out-door pool heat and humidity.

  • Maintenance Staff

    Job Description

    Under the supervision and guidance of the Director, the Maintenance staff member will, perform “hands-on” duties that will support the overall cleanliness, upkeep and safety of the branch or center.  He or she will also assist with maintenance projects deemed appropriate by the Director.

     

     

    Qualifications

    • ŸHigh School or equivalency
    • ŸMinimum 2 years related experience – cleaning, landscaping, mechanical etc.
    • ŸMust have experience with various hand tools
    • ŸPrevious maintenance experience is preferred
    • ŸPrevious aquatic / pool management experience a plus
    • ŸMust have a pleasant, helpful personality and work as a team player
    • ŸMust be able to do minor lifting

    Essential Functions:

    • ŸComplete assigned maintenance projects in a timely, safe fashion.
    • ŸEnsure all enhanced cleaning and sanitizing processes are followed without exception.
    • ŸWork in tandem with their supervisor to ensure all tasks assigned are completed.
    • ŸWork closely with the Senior Facility Director to ensure any areas of concern are addressed immediately and appropriately.
    • ŸUtilize all safety practices and guidelines ensure that all tasks are done in a safe manner and all PPEs are used appropriately.
    • ŸReport any findings of additional repairs or work needed immediately to the Director.
    • ŸAttend all mandatory meetings.
    • ŸPossess a clear understanding of YMCA core values and exemplify them when on duty.
    • ŸFollow “House Rules” and four core values.
    • ŸAccurately reflect hours worked utilizing the time recording method assigned.
    • ŸFollow assignments given by Director, including special projects and set-ups

    PHYSICAL REQURIEMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

     

    • Ability to walk, sit, stand, bend, crawl, reach, stretch, pull, push, climb, lift and carry a maximum of 50 pounds.
    • Ability to tolerate outdoor weather conditions (both heat and cold).
    • Ability to hear and see to ensure the ability to take directions in various environments safely.
    • Ability to communicate in writing and verbal to ensure safety requirements can be clearly understood.

  • Member Service Representative-Evenings and Weekends

    POSITION SUMMARY:     

     

    The Membership Services Representative will be responsible for the operation of the front desk. This includes greeting and engaging with members, guests and other staff, intake of all monies, answering phones, registering membership and program participants, answering questions, close-out shifts.

    HOURS: Flexible shifts during evenings and weekends

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Arrive on time and dressed in proper attire (ie: clean and presentable Y shirt and name tag).
    • Answer phones in a professional and pleasant manner.
    • Refer callers to appropriate director or staff as needed, always trying to assist the caller initially.
    • Provide cause driven tours and complete tour cards for all prospective members, answer questions and distribute brochure and other written material as requested.
    • Greet guests and members upon their entering the building with a smile and a pleasant attitude, using Listen First skills to answer questions and gather information, with the vast majority of the time at the desk in a standing, member/guest friendly environment.
    • Process all membership applications, guest receipts, program registrations and sales.File all paperwork from the transaction in its proper place.
    • Keep front desk neat, tidy, clean, organized and clear of clutter with information that is up-to-date.
    • Attend all required trainings suggested by supervisor and those that are mandatory (ie:new employee orientation, blood borne pathogens).
    • Cover breaks and lunch hours when needed.
    • Punch in and out on time clock according to YMCA policy.
    • Always remember safety first - act and react at all times in a safe manner.
    • Communicate all problems with the supervisor (if in the evening advise Security).
    • May be responsible for opening and closing the front desk, implement all opening and/or closing procedures accurately and completely.
    • Perform other job-related duties as requested and necessary.
    • Responsible for intake of monies/checks during shifts and completing close-out by ensure close out envelop is deposited into safe.

       

       

      REQUIREMENTS:

    • 18+ years of age, a minimum of a HS degree or equivalent, or in the process of completing.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Under the leadership and guidance of the Program Director or Coordinator the Birthday Party Specialist will be responsible for the planning, supervision and outcome of the party.

    • Communicate any issues or accidents to the appropriate Director or Coordinator.
    • Ensure the equipment and supplies are neatly put away at conclusion of the event and the room is returned to operational standards provided by supervisor.

    POSITION SUMMARY: 

    The individual will proactively support staff, positively engage with members and guests, and ensure the building operates in a safe manner.  Utilizing a comprehensive understanding of current policies, procedures and emergency actions plans, will ensure the overall safety and wellbeing of members, guests, visitor and staff.  The incumbent will be the primary responder to emergency situations. 

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

     

    • Build and foster positive relationship with members, guests and staff to ensure a welcoming and safe environment for all. 
    • Monitor building and grounds to ensure all areas are being appropriately utilized, are secured, and all health and safety protocols are being followed.
    • Walk the building and grounds, inspecting all areas, both inside and outside, for risk, signs of vandalism or areas that need attention. 
    • Work in conjunction with department leaders, when needed, to articulate policies and procedures.
    • Report any system issues immediately to appropriate manager.  If the system needs urgent attention immediately reach out to designated manager or Branch Director of Operations.
    • Participate in branch staff meetings and emergency action plan drills.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Under the supervision and guidance of the Camp Director and/or Unit Leader, the Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for the guidance and safety of all the children in the summer camp program. The Summer Camp Counselor will implement programs, behaviors and activities that embrace the four core values of honesty, respect, caring and responsibility.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    3. Assist with daily arrivals, dismissals and announcements.

    8. Submit a daily activity plan and adhere to it.

  • Lifeguard

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Under the supervision of the Aquatic Director/Assistant Aquatic Director or Pool Manager, the lifeguards will be responsible for the safety of all members during the hours of pool operation by being on deck, actively patrolling the pool area, constantly remaining alert and scanning, enforcing all pool rules, and other duties as assigned by the Director, Assistant Director or Pool Manager.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1. Ensure all health and safety guidelines are strictly adhered to.

    2. Ensure safety of members and patrons and prevent injuries by actively guarding and supervising of pools by active scanning and patrolling.

    3. Ensure the pool is safe and staffing is within YMCA standards when taking responsibility for the pool and when exiting off of duty.

    4. Ensure your personal protective (rescue breather, gloves, fanny pack) is all in good working order and accessible per safety standards.

    5. Have a complete understanding of, and be familiar with all emergency procedures, buzzers, buttons and YMCA standards, operations and protocols.

    6. Ensure security of pool when leaving the pool area – no pool is ever left unguarded for any reason, at any time. Pool and pool deck must be vacated by all when guard must leave pool area.

    7. React immediately to signs of individuals in distress.

    8. Administer first aid to victims using OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Universal Precautions. Provide immediate care to sustain life until EMS arrives.

    9. Complete all incident reports and save them at time of incident, including all pertinent information. Reports must be legible and state the facts as witnessed by the guard.

    10. Maintain all aquatic standards and rules. Ensure no distractions or interference with the ability to hear or see signs of distress.

    11. Adherence to all bathing code regulations, standards and safety measures.

    12. Must keep all certifications current and have the ability to provide documentation of certifications at all times when requested.

    13. Wear proper YMCA professional appearance policy attire as well as have all proper safety equipment (whistle, tube, fanny pack, etc.) on persons at all time.

    14. Participate as part of the Aquatic Team in providing a safe and enjoyable, member friendly environment.

  • Member Service Representative

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Membership Services Representative will be responsible for the operation of the front desk. This includes greeting and engaging with members, guests and other staff, intake of all monies, answering phones, registering membership and program participants, answering questions, close-out shifts.

    Monday-Friday 4pm-9pm
    Saturday-Sunday 1pm-4pm

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    2. Arrive on time and dressed in proper attire (i.e. a clean and presentable Y shirt, skirt or pants).

    3. Answer phones in a professional and pleasant manner, help to prepare brochure and other marketing material as requested.

    5. Provide tours and complete tour cards for all prospective members, answer questions and distribute brochure and other written material as requested.

    6. Greet guests and members upon their entering the building with a smile and a pleasant attitude, using Listen First skills to answer questions and gather information.

    7. Process all membership applications, guest receipts, program registrations and sales. File all paperwork from the transaction in its proper place.

    8. Keep the front desk neat, tidy, clean, organized and clear of clutter with information that is up-to-date.

    9. Attend all required trainings suggested by supervisor and those that are mandatory (i.e. new employee orientation, blood borne pathogens).

    10. Cover breaks and lunch hours when needed.

    11. Punch in and out on time clock according to YMCA policy.

    12. Always remember safety first - act and react at all times in a safe manner.

    13. Communicate all problems with the supervisor (if in the evening, advise Security).

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Under the supervision of the Aquatic Director/Assistant Aquatic Director, the Pool Manager will be responsible for the safety of all members during the hours of the pool operation.     3. Give leadership and supervision of the lifeguard staff, gate staff, maintenance staff, and grounds crew, including scheduling of these staff.

    5. Enforce all pool rules in a firm, but tactful manner and ensure all staff are well-equipped and knowledgeable of rules to be able to enforce them.

    6. Communicate and implement YMCA Aquatic Safety policies, practices and guidelines.

    7. Ensure all drills and in-services required per the Aquatic Safety Plan are scheduled and delivered with attendance and results being recorded.

    8. Work with lifeguards as a team player, giving direction and displaying leadership qualities, ensuring all guards are actively scanning and patrolling their assigned sections. Provide breaks for guards as needed and scheduled to ensure the pool is always in guarding ratio.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Under the leadership and supervision of the School Age Child Care Director, Child Care Director or Site Director, the School Age Child Care Counselor will provide guidance and secure safety for all of the children in the After School Program.  The School Age Child Care Counselor will implement programs designed and monitored by the  Director that ensure every child has the ability to reach their fullest potential and incorporate the four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1. Be a role model for children in program, ensuring they have the ability to thrive and grow.
    2. Assist with daily arrivals and dismissals ensuring all attendance records are accurate and notifying the School Age Child Care Director of any discrepancies.
    3. Responsible for equipment and supplies of the program.
    4. On assigned late-nights responsibilities include straightening up the room, locking all cabinets, removing lost & found items, directing parents (when needed) on how to make payment of late fees and returning sign-out sheets and necessary information to office.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Under the direction of the Aquatic Director or assigned supervisor, the Private Swim Instructor will assure the safety, well-being and enjoyment of assigned participant(s) in his/her class. The Instructor is responsible for teaching the strokes by instructing, demonstrating, and correcting the individual so they may learn to the best of their ability. Swim instructors should make and keep swimming a fun activity, while bearing in mind that safety can never be compromised. Private Swim Instructors will be responsible for following all YMCA swim instruction guidelines and program objectives.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1. Ensure all health and safety guidelines are strictly adhered to.

    2. Review the binder to ensure the lesson receipt is in the binder.

    3. Take accurate attendance and address participants by name, making every effort to know each person’s name as quickly as possible.

    4. Present a positive, friendly, confident attitude, and always use a coaching and mentoring teaching style with an emphasis on self-development and skill building.

    5. Arrive at the assigned time, dressed in appropriate swim attire.

    6. Ensure all teaching equipment needed is pool side prior to lesson starting. At the conclusion of the class, all equipment is returned to the proper place.

    7. Teach in a professional, courteous manner, always remaining engaged and attentive to participant(s).

    8. Respect all pool rules, ensure participants understand pool rules.

    9. Have a complete and thorough understanding of subject matter with an ability to teach, model, demonstrate and redirect swim stroke, techniques and mechanics to ensure participants are making forward progress in the lessons.

    10. Refer to teaching guides or supervisor to ensure lessons are being presented within the YMCA guidelines.

    11. Communicate with supervisor well in advance when there is a schedule conflict or as soon as possible if you are unable to teach.

    12. Ensure all safety practices are being enforced and report any hazards to your supervisor immediately.

    13. Remain with participant(s) until the end of the session, never leaving the teaching area until the conclusion of class.

    14. Ensure participant(s) exit the pool appropriately.

    POSITION SUMMARY:     

    Under the supervision of the Aquatic Director/Assistant Aquatic Director or Pool Manager, the lifeguards will be responsible for the safety of all members during the hours of pool operation by being on deck, actively patrolling the pool area, constantly remaining alert and scanning, enforcing all pool rules, and other duties as assigned by the Director, Assistant Director or Pool Manager.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Ensure safety of members and patrons and prevent injuries by actively guarding and supervising of pools by active scanning and patrolling.
    • Each YMCA staff member is required to participate in an enhanced cleaning program which supervisors will articulate the exact process as well as product used to clean and what PPE will be required to be worn.
    • Ensure the pool is safe and staffing is within YMCA standards when taking responsibility for the pool and when exiting off of duty.

    The School Age Child Care Counselor will provide guidance, mentoring and coaching for all children in the After School Care Program while ensuring the safety and well-being for the children in the Program.

    Qualifications:

    5. Knowledge of emergency procedures. Report all accidents/incidents to Director as soon as possible. Accurately complete and submit an accident form immediately.

    6. Supervise children during activities, trips, and lunch, when in pool area and/or locker room.

    7. Have complete knowledge of where all children in group are at all times.

    8. Submit a daily activity plan and adhere to it.

    9. Report difficult or unusual situations to your supervisor as soon as possible. If those concerns impact safety or the well-being of a camper, fellow staff member, or yourself they must be reported immediately.

    10. Implement activities for group including setting up, acquiring materials and clean up.

    11. Accurately record daily attendance.

    12. Participate with enthusiasm and motivate all children in group.

    Under the supervision and guidance of the Camp Director, the Unit Leader is responsible for the guidance and safety of the staff and children in the summer camp program. The Unit Leader is responsible for supervising counselors, and their programs.     4. Provide a desirable role model for staff and campers. Provide direction for staff, counselors and volunteers. Work with counselors to plan and executive enjoyable activities according to schedule.

    5. Awareness of emergency procedures. Report all accidents/incidents to supervisor ASAP and fill out accident forms.

    6. Maintain positive relationships with parents in a manner that reflects a “Family Friendly” YMCA.

    7. Greet parents during arrivals and dismissals and address concerns professionally or director to Camp Director.

    8. Approve daily activity sheets submitted by counselors ensuring age appropriate, safety conscious, and the core values are being met.

    9. Responsible for the entire unit on field trip, including safety, attendance, and acting as YMCA representative.

    10. Responsible for turning in receipts for all petty cash, admission fees and tolls.

    11. Assume responsibility of camp in Assistant Camp Director’s absence.

    12. Assist counselors with camper problems. Discipline children in an appropriate manner when necessary following the Guidelines for Positive Discipline.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Membership Services Representative will be responsible for the operation of the front desk. This includes greeting and engaging with members, guests and other staff, intake of all monies, answering phones, registering membership and program participants, answering questions, close-out shifts.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1. Ensure all health and safety guidelines are strictly adhered to.

    2. Arrive on time and dressed in proper attire (i.e. a clean and presentable Y shirt, skirt or pants).

    3. Answer phones in a professional and pleasant manner, help to prepare brochure and other marketing material as requested.

    5. Provide tours and complete tour cards for all prospective members, answer questions and distribute brochure and other written material as requested.

    6. Greet guests and members upon their entering the building with a smile and a pleasant attitude, using Listen First skills to answer questions and gather information.

    7. Process all membership applications, guest receipts, program registrations and sales. File all paperwork from the transaction in its proper place.

    8. Keep the front desk neat, tidy, clean, organized and clear of clutter with information that is up-to-date.

    9. Attend all required trainings suggested by supervisor and those that are mandatory (i.e. new employee orientation, blood borne pathogens).

    10. Cover breaks and lunch hours when needed.

    11. Punch in and out on time clock according to YMCA policy.

    Under the leadership and guidance of the Program Director or assignee, the Party/Event Coordinator will be responsible for the planning, execution, staffing, supervision and outcome of parties and events.

    • Coordinate party/event details including, but not limited to: scheduling of date, type of party/event, contract execution, scheduling of activities, scheduling of staff, securing and booking areas within facility.

    • Ensure all payments and balances are collected prior to conclusion of party/event.
    • Ensure clear communication occurs prior to party to ensure the expectations of the party/event are met, engaging Director when needed.

    • Arrive prior to the beginning of the party/event and ensure all equipment and party materials are set up and there are no safety concerns.
    • Conduct party in a safe, engaging manner.   Redirect behavior in a positive, encouraging manner, engaging parent/guardian, if need be, to ensure safety is always a priority as well as all participants having a positive experience.
    • Display a pleasant, cheerful, enthusiastic and approachable manner, ensure that the party/event contact has an introduction to the Birthday Party Specialist or host.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Under the supervision and guidance of the Camp Director, the Unit Leader is responsible for the guidance and safety of the staff and children in the summer camp program. The Unit Leader is responsible for supervising counselors, and their programs.   • Bus Driver

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Under the supervision and guidance of the Program Director, Camp Director and/or Branch Director of Operations the driver is responsible for the safety of all passengers and the vehicle at all times. The School Bus Driver must display personal characteristics that exemplify the four core values of the YMCA: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

    Salary: $22/hour

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1. Ensure all health and safety guidelines are strictly adhered to.

    2. Ensure the safety of all passengers in bus.

    3. Arrive on time (approximately 5 minutes prior to pick-up) at scheduled centers.

    4. Confirm delayed openings and school closings with YMCA personnel (or as indicated on local radio station).

    5. Bus is to be used only for transportation of YMCA participants unless authorized by supervisor.

    6. Any ticket, moving violation, or incident(s) that affects your driving status, must be reported to the Human Resource Director and Executive Director immediately.

    7. Be a positive, desirable role model for children and parents.

    8. Knowledge of emergency procedures and the ability to implement them if need be.

    9. Must report all accidents/incidents to immediate supervisor as soon as possible, as well as complete the accident/incident report and submit it.

    10. Ensure that all passengers and driver are wearing seatbelts at all times.

    11. Maintain and submit Vehicle Destination Logs, Gas Logs, and Mileage Logs according to YMCA procedures.

    12. Perform a pre-trip inspection checking bus for safety hazards, etc. before using a bus.

    13. Ensure your bus has gas and the inside is kept orderly (return all lost and found to appropriate department at end of run).

    14. Smoking, eating, and drinking while driving the bus is prohibited.

    15. Drive with extreme courtesy. The bus represents the Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge, and South Amboy YMCA

    16. Prepare and submit Vehicle Maintenance Request forms immediately upon detection of bus defect or possible defect, address any major cleaning issues.

    17. Assist children getting on and off bus.

    18. Drivers must walk to the back of the bus and back to the front at the end of the bus run to ensure all children have safely gotten off of the bus.

    19. Driver must have in their possession operational cell phone (provided by YMCA) and have it turned on. Always pull off the road to operate phone.

    20. Attend mandatory staff meetings and YMCA training sessions.

    21. Adhere to “House Rules” and exemplify the four core character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

    22. Accurately complete time sheets on a daily basis, signing at the end of the week.

    23. Communicate with supervisor any issues, concerns surrounding the transportation of passengers and/or the bus.

  • Pre-School Assistant Teacher

    The Assistant Teacher will work with a small group of children under the coaching and supervision of a professional staff to ensure the care, safety and well being of the children assigned to her/his group.     • Assist in supervising the group of children to which she/he is assigned (during classroom experience, during outdoor playground activities and while off the Center grounds).

  • Summer Camp Counselor

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Under the supervision and guidance of the Camp Director and/or Unit Leader, the Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for the guidance and safety of all the children in the summer camp program. The Summer Camp Counselor will implement programs, behaviors and activities that embrace the four core values of honesty, respect, caring and responsibility.

    HOURS:             M-F AM and PM shifts available
    HOURLY
    RATE:                 starting at $14.13 DOE 

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

    1. Ensure all health and safety guidelines are strictly adhered to.

    2. Set an example in conduct and personal habits.

    3. Assist with daily arrivals, dismissals and announcements.

    4. Responsible for all equipment and supplies of the program, especially those in your use.

    5. Knowledge of emergency procedures. Report all accidents/incidents to Director as soon as possible. Accurately complete and submit an accident form immediately.

    6. Supervise children during activities, trips, and lunch, when in pool area and/or locker room.

    7. Have complete knowledge of where all children in group are at all times.

    8. Submit a daily activity plan and adhere to it.

    9. Report difficult or unusual situations to your supervisor as soon as possible. If those concerns impact safety or the well-being of a camper, fellow staff member, or yourself they must be reported immediately.

    10. Implement activities for group including setting up, acquiring materials and clean up.

    11. Accurately record daily attendance.

    12. Participate with enthusiasm and motivate all children in group.

    13. Discipline children in an appropriate manner when necessary following the Positive Discipline Guidelines.

    14. Meet, greet, discuss and promote program content and children using parents in a manner that reflects a “Family Friendly” YMCA.

    15. Adhere to YMCA “House Rules”.

    16. Attend all department and/or YMCA staff meetings and trainings.

    17. Be aware of your daily trip and have appropriate dress (i.e. trip t-shirt, swim suit and towel, etc.) *all staff are required to swim during swim trips.

    18. Facilitate buddy checks.

    19. All tasks will be carried out in a safe manner for employee/staff.

     

    REQUIREMENTS:

    · Must have excellent decision making skills, the ability to be a strong role model and an excellent communicator.

    · Must have a positive attitude, enthusiasm and be able to work as part of a team.

    · Must be at least 18 years of age.

    · Previous experience working with children in a day or resident camp setting, childcare or related setting.

    · Be able to demonstrate skills in motivating, games, athletics, crafts, songs, storytelling.

    · Must have current CPR and First Aid certifications.

     

    PHYSICAL REQURIEMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Normal amounts of walking, standing, sitting, running, jumping, lifting, pushing, pulling, entering and exiting swim pools, ability to tolerate summer weather and outdoor conditions, ability to travel via bus to and from YMCA designated trip locations.

  • Unit Leader

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Under the supervision and guidance of the Camp Director, the Unit Leader is responsible for the guidance and safety of the staff and children in the summer camp program. The Unit Leader is responsible for supervising counselors, and their programs. The Unit Leader must understand the four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility and assist the counselors in implementation. The Unit Leaders will be role models and mentors to staff and counselors.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1. Ensure all health and safety guidelines are strictly adhered to.

    2. Assist Camp Director in meeting and maintaining YMCA camping standards.

    3. Supervise all counselors in unit. Evaluate staff regularly. Act as a liaison between counselors and Camp Director.

    4. Provide a desirable role model for staff and campers. Provide direction for staff, counselors and volunteers. Work with counselors to plan and executive enjoyable activities according to schedule.

    5. Awareness of emergency procedures. Report all accidents/incidents to supervisor ASAP and fill out accident forms.

    6. Maintain positive relationships with parents in a manner that reflects a “Family Friendly” YMCA.

    7. Greet parents during arrivals and dismissals and address concerns professionally or director to Camp Director.

    8. Approve daily activity sheets submitted by counselors ensuring age appropriate, safety conscious, and the core values are being met.

    9. Responsible for the entire unit on field trip, including safety, attendance, and acting as YMCA representative.

    10. Responsible for turning in receipts for all petty cash, admission fees and tolls.

    11. Assume responsibility of camp in Assistant Camp Director’s absence.

    12. Assist counselors with camper problems. Discipline children in an appropriate manner when necessary following the Guidelines for Positive Discipline.

    13. Adhere to YMCA “House Rules”.

    14. Attend YMCA and/or department meetings and trainings as mandated.

    15. Manage the transportation of camper lunches.

    16. Follow weekly schedules of opening/closing camp.

    17. Maintain staff/camper moral.

    18. Complete all time sheets on a daily basis.

    19. Administer first aid and supervise children’s personal hygiene.

    20. Model healthy eating habits. Bring your lunch from home. Staff will not be allowed to leave camp or children to get lunch.

    21. Participate in physical activity daily with children.

    22. Attend and participate in family nights for your unit

    23. MOST IMPORTANT – EVERY CAMPER HAS FUN, EVERY COUNSELOR IS FUN, AND SMILES ARE A MUST.

     

    REQUIREMENTS:

    · Should be at least 21 years of age.

    · Must be able to demonstrate skills in motivation, storytelling, games, athletics, crafts & songs.

    · Must have current CPR and First Aid.

  • Entry-Level IT Assistant

     

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Under the supervision of the IT Director or his/her designee, the IT Assistant will be responsible for the Association support and maintenance of all computers including laptops, servers, and mobile devices. The IT Assistant will also manage the phone system, handle IT systems and the network.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    · Entry Level position for Freshman, Junior and Sophomore level students with limited experience. As well as a Senior planning to attend Graduate School.

    · The position provides flexible and remote work hours around school requirements.

    · Through a combination of training and self-learning the IT Tech will gain a wide background of IT and Business experience.

    · Provide support for various IT and Administrative related tasks.

    · Troubleshoot hardware, software, network related issues.

    · Provide desktop support to end users.

    · Software installation and configuration.

    · Provide training on various software and hardware products.

    · Hardware installation, removal and relocation to various areas and sites.

    · Develop and maintain inventory details for IT equipment, fitness equipment, telephone equipment and other organizational items.

    · Collect and organize information on current phone system. Compare and analyze costs and features with other vendors and phone systems.

    · Support software transitions (Daxko, Time and Attendance, etc). Including, but not limited to, updating workstations, installing software/hardware, training, reconciling accounts, data analysis, review and validation.

    · Provide general support to other areas of the organization as needed.

    · This position requires a valid driver’s license.

    · Travel to various worksites is required. Personal vehicle is required for travel and moving equipment. Travel expenses are reimbursed.

    · This is a part-time position. The number of hours and daily schedule may change as needed. Offsite and on-call time may also be required.

    · Requires knowledge and experience with MS Office Suite (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Access).

    REQUIREMENTS: 

    · Knowledge and experience with MS Office Suite and additional software experience such as Adobe, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and In-design

    · Excellent written and oral communication skills

    · Must be able to read, write and communicate fluently in English

    · Valid driver license with excellent driving record

    · Personal vehicle for travel and moving of equipment
