Edison Community Campus Celebrates 20 Years of Impact

EDISON, December 12, 2022 - The Edison Community Campus, the country’s first collaboration between a Jewish Community Center and YMCA, is celebrating its 20th anniversary next Thursday, December 15th. In its 20 years, the Community Campus has significantly impacted the lives of so many in the Edison Community and beyond.

“We could not be more grateful to reach this incredible milestone,” says JCC CEO Adam Glinn. “It’s been an honor to serve the community with social, educational, recreational and socially responsible programming. This collaboration strengthens both organizations and allows us to be even more impactful in the lives of our community members.”

The Campus has grown exponentially over the last 20 years, literally and figuratively.  The Edison Y added an additional 6000 square feet of program space in 2013 to better serve its membership, and the JCC is currently awaiting its groundbreaking for a 21 thousand square foot addition.

Over the years, the Campus has served nearly 20 thousand members:

  • Teaching over ten thousand people lifesaving skills through swim lessons

  • Preparing over six thousand children for kindergarten in preschool programs

  • Providing over two thousand children with a safe place to go to after school

  • Graduating over two hundred cancer survivors from LiveSTRONG® programs

  • Guiding over four thousand personal training clients to improve their health

  • Teaching over two thousand swim team members the importance of teamwork

  • Providing opportunities for the more than 67 thousand visits from seniors who were given opportunities to socialize, overcome grief and continue lifelong learning

The Campus started as the Jewish Community Center of Middlesex County before merging with the YMCA of Metuchen to create the Edison Community Campus. Former JCC CEO Dorothy Rubinstein, and Former YMCA of Metuchen CEO William Lovett, spearheaded the collaboration, creating a community space for all. download (1)

“The Community Campus is an incredibly unique organization and benefits Edison and the surrounding areas greatly,” says YMCA of Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge and South Amboy CEO Rose Cushing. “We look forward to continuing this collaboration and seeing how we can further meet the needs of our community.”

The Community Campus will be celebrating the entire week of its anniversary, beginning with FREE BMI & blood pressure monitoring on Monday, December 12th and continuing throughout the week with events like a FREE 20-minute meal cooking demos on Tuesday, a Family Fun Night & FREE 20 minute group exercise demos on Wednesday, small group training demos & giveaways on Thursday and games all week long at the membership desk. Come by and become a part of something GREAT!
