YMCA of MEWSA Offers LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program

Beginning in February, the YMCA of MEWSA will offer LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA at the Metuchen, Edison, South Amboy and YMCA at the Piscataway Community Center locations.

Since its inception in 2007, over 700 individuals have graduated from the research-backed LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program at the YMCA of MEWSA. This program is run by LIVESTRONG® ambassadors who undergo significant training to work with cancer survivors.

“We could not be more excited to welcome LIVESTRONG® back to our Metuchen, Edison and South Amboy branches,” says President and CEO Rose Cushing. “We held a virtual program in 2021 and at the YMCA at the Piscataway Community Center last year, but this is the first time since the COVID-19 Pandemic that LIVESTRONG® will, once again, be held across the association.”

LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA is a free 12-week program focusing on cancer survivors' physical and mental health. It also allows survivors to be in a supportive peer community with fellow survivors.

Wellness Director from the YMCA at the Piscataway Community Center, Hannah Thomas, says, “It is an honor to be a part of this program. It is amazing to see the participants grow throughout the session. They become stronger physically but also become so much more confident in themselves. They truly are reclaiming their body, mind and spirit.”

Individuals interested in participating at the Metuchen branch can contact Brenda Werneiwskei at brenda.werneiwskei@ymcaofmewsa.org, Christine Jaffe can be contacted at christine.jaffe@ymcaofmewsa.org for the Edison branch, Tom Ryan can be contacted at tom.ryan@ymcaofmewsa.org for the South Amboy branch and Hannah Thomas can be contacted at hannah.thomas@ymcaofmewsa.org for the YMCA at the Piscataway Community Center.
