YMCA of MEWSA Receives Youth and Government Grant

The YMCA of Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge and South Amboy received notification of a grant in the amount of $5,500 from the New Jersey State Bar Association to support the costs of its Youth and Government Program.

The program will be held at the Metuchen YMCA and is open to 9th - 12th graders in the community interested in civic engagement. Through the existing Y-USA national program model, teens from across the state meet with other local YMCAs throughout the year to discuss and debate issues affecting state citizens and propose mock legislation. The program culminates with the participants serving as delegates at the YMCA NJ Youth and Government State Conference.

“We’re so grateful to receive this grant for the third year in a row,” says Gabriella St. Fleur, Youth and Government Supervisor. “The program helps build the participants' confidence while teaching them about the importance of civics in their local communities.”

This program is fee-based, but the grant will allow the Y to offer financial aid to teens from underserved families.

Interested participants should contact Gabriella St. Fleur at 732-548-2044 ext. 2255 or email gabriella.stfleur@ymcaofmewsa.org
