Amazon Generously Donates To Empower YMCA Programs In Middlesex County

Amazon’s culture is built to solve problems. They are committed to working side-by-side with community partners to make direct, lasting, positive impacts in the communities around where their employees live and work. One of the ways Amazon is addressing this is by partnering with the YMCA of Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge & South Amboy (MEWSA), a leader in youth development, STEM education, and wellness to provide local families with programs and activities that excite learning, inspire healthy living and encourage all to thrive.

The most recent donation to the YMCA of MEWSA of $20,000 reflects Amazon's unwavering commitment to social responsibility and its dedication to supporting local organizations that foster community growth and development. This generous contribution will play a pivotal role in enhancing the YMCA's efforts to serve local families in need. Since 2020, Amazon has donated $120,000 to the YMCA of MEWSA. As the Middlesex County community continues to recover from the pandemic and live through a difficult period of inflation, the ongoing support of Amazon will allow the YMCA’s financial assistance program to thrive. Because of Amazon’s generosity, families, seniors, childcare participants and campers receive vital programs and services, no matter their ability to pay. When families are struggling, the YMCA ensures that no one is turned away from the life-altering and life-saving programs provided.

Soon after building a fulfillment center in Edison, Amazon became a staunch supporter of the Middlesex County community. In addition to financial support, Amazon provides in-kind donations for those most in need. Amazon seeks to encourage children from underserved communities to learn computer science and someday pursue careers in technology or other in-demand jobs of the future by providing access to quality opportunities like those offered at the YMCA of MEWSA.  Amazon’s donation will support students like Brianna, who participated in our IT program, where historically underserved youth are enrolled to review computer programming, test their computer skills and use different technologies to accomplish a goal. With this out-of-school support for education, Brianna returns to the classroom with increased confidence and exposure to new career options.

“We are so grateful to Amazon for its commitment to our mission,” said Rose Cushing, President & CEO of the YMCA of MEWSA.  “Its generosity will allow us to support so many more families, ensuring they stay healthy, safe and engaged in Y programming, regardless of their ability to pay.”

“Amazon is thrilled to continue our partnership with the YMCA of MEWSA and support the great work their team does. Partnerships such as ours with the YMCA of MEWSA reflect our commitment to Middlesex County and the entire state of New Jersey,” said Carley Graham Garcia, Head of Community Affairs, Amazon New Jersey. “We are committed to being great neighbors and supporting communities across the state we call home, which is why we’re so happy to continue our support of the YMCA of MEWSA.”

The YMCA and Amazon together will work to invest in the community’s youngest residents to ensure that our community continues to flourish from generation to generation, building strong kids, strong families and strong communities for years to come.
