The
YMCA of Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge & South Amboy (MEWSA) is pleased to
announce the appointment of a new Board member, Douglas A. Wheeler.
Doug
has spent the past twelve plus years at New York Life as Head of State
Government Affairs in the Office of Governmental Affairs. In his role, Doug and
his team were responsible for the company’s government affairs operation in all
50 states including all activities involving the National Association of
Insurance Commissioners. Prior to his tenure at New York Life, Doug
served as Director of the Division of Insurance in the New Jersey Department of
Banking and Insurance. Other previous roles held by Doug in the Department
include Assistant Commissioner for Legislative and Regulatory Affairs and Chief
of Staff. He has also served as General Counsel and Board Secretary for The
Performance Insurance Company, as Vice President of Riverview Professional
Services, and as Counsel in the New Jersey State Senate where he staffed the
Senate Commerce and Judiciary Committees.
Doug is
a graduate of Seton Hall University School of Law J.D. and the University of
Rochester, BA, in History and Political Science. He resides in Metuchen with
his wife and family, and volunteers on the Board of “It Takes A Borough” (formerly
the Fuccile Foundation), a charitable organization which raises money for
families in need.

for the Y, as well as creating opportunities and establishing relationships
that advance the YMCA’s mission and cause. The Board of the YMCA of MEWSA
is currently comprised of twenty-seven members with strong professional and
community ties to Middlesex County.
