YMCA Announces Appointment of Board Member Gurdeep Sawhney
The YMCA of Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge & South Amboy (MEWSA) is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Board member, Gurdeep Sawhney.
Gurdeep has worked in higher education for more than a decade and is currently the Director of Admissions and Recruitment for Middlesex College, a public community college with its main campus in Edison and urban center campuses in both New Brunswick and Perth Amboy. In addition to his leadership in the college's administration, he also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Mathematics and Public Speaking. Gurdeep is also the owner and operator of a growing construction firm servicing Middlesex County. This knowledge in construction project management, added to his experience in higher education, brings welcome skills to the MEWSA Board of Directors.
Gurdeep holds a Master's in Business Administration from the Keller Graduate School of Management and an undergraduate degree in airport and business management. He and his wife, Simran, an Enrollment Services Manager with the New Jersey Institute of Technology, live in Colonia with their family.
"We are delighted that Gurdeep is willing to share his experience and enthusiasm with our Board," said Dr. Joseph Gaffney, Chairman of the Board of Directors. Laura Muñoz Humphreys, President & CEO, added that "his experience and community insight will greatly benefit our organization as we begin implementing our updated strategic plan."
YMCA Board members are responsible for establishing policy and strategic direction for the Y, as well as creating opportunities and establishing relationships that advance the YMCA’s mission and cause. The Board of the YMCA of MEWSA is currently comprised of twenty-four members with strong professional and community ties to the communities we serve.
