We are writing to share an important update about the South Amboy YMCA swimming pool.

After extensive evaluation, the YMCA has made the difficult decision to close the pool effective March 7, 2026. The pool requires significant repairs, ongoing maintenance, and long-term capital investment that can no longer be sustained responsibly while also supporting the other programs our community relies on.

We know this news may be disappointing. The pool has been a meaningful part of many members' routines, from swim lessons and lap swim to water exercise and family time. This decision was not made lightly. Our responsibility is to ensure safety, financial sustainability, and our ability to support individuals and families through YMCA programs and services across the communities we serve.

Water safety remains a core part of the YMCA's mission. Swim lessons and free aquatic programs like fitness classes and open swim are available at our Metuchen, Edison and Piscataway branches.

We're also excited to offer South Amboy members complimentary memberships to Oakcrest Community Pool, our outdoor pool in Edison, for the 2026 season. Oakcrest is available weekends and holidays from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Members who are interested can visit the South Amboy Welcome Center to register.
